- Article determines a significant and important task for teachers of higher education as the formation of subject competencies among students of humanitarian specialties. It is found that the subject competencies represent the result of the students’ mastering of the specified disciplines by curriculum. During the research it was proved that an effective means for forming the subject competence for students of humanitarian specialties in higher education institutions is the technologies of media education, which is aimed at the preparing of the individual for the safe and effective interaction with the modern mass media system, including traditional media (printed media, radio, cinema, television) and new media (computer-mediated communication, the Internet, digital mobile connection and etc.). It is established that the success of forming the subject competencies for students of humanitarian specialties with the use of media education is provided by the disclosure and implementation of the appropriate pedagogical conditions in practice. The first of these conditions is to consider the specific of the professional training of future specialists in humanities. The second pedagogical condition is to enrich the content of humanitarian disciplines with different types of media materials and to provide students with qualified pedagogical support as working with them, taking into account their didactic capabilities. At last, the third condition is the organization of the students’ independent work based on the media education technologies usage.
