  • The article analyzes the main ways of formation of cognitive independence in students. The psychological and pedagogical features of adolescents are characterized and groups of factors that influence the process of formation of cognitive independence are established. The expediency of the formation of cognitive independence of adolescents during the study of subjects in the cycle of natural sciences is substantiated. Some suggestions concerning the successful formation of cognitive independence of adolescents during the study of natural sciences are presented. Ensuring the country's intensive development is only possible if a new, rising generation of people capable of rapid learning, constant self-improvement, people who can easily adapt to changing conditions of existence and apply their knowledge in practice can provide qualitative education. To achieve a positive result is possible only with the application of new teaching methods that will be able to raise initiative individuals who are ready for lifetime learning and self-development. State policy in the field of education is aimed at the formation of autonomy, initiative of schoolchildren. In the Concept of a New Ukrainian School, one of the key competencies is the ability to learn throughout life. That is to develop the ability to search and learn new knowledge, the ability to form learning goals and find ways to achieve them, and evaluate their own learning outcomes. Formation of cognitive independence in adolescents is an important task that will require deep analysis and research.
