- The article aims to investigate the extralinguistic and intralinguistic factors of the creating linguistic image of space in the lyrics by a Kharkiv poet Levko Borovykovskyi. It is highlighted that the issue of the linguistic expression of space in Ukrainian poetry is relevant and multifaceted, because it provides valuable text materials for understanding not only literature, language and aesthetics phenomena, but also the mentality of the nation. The author determines the originality of the artistic world of the poet from the perspective of the historical and cultural conditions of that time and characteristics of Levko Borovykovskyi’s personality. Particular attention is focused on the formation of the artist’s worldview and the language means of its expression, the innovative achievements in the field of representing spatial realities in the romantic poetry. It is shown that in the Levko Borovykovskyi’s linguistic worldview Ukrainian space is expressed by several lexical-semantic groups, which represent all aspects of the traditional space characteristic. The author identifies that it is mainly idyllic, associated with the image of the native countryside as well as in other romanticists’ creative works of that time. The investigation of the issue gives grounds for the analysis of the formation of the poetic style of Ukrainian literary language and certain generalizations about the development of its lexical-semantic system in the considered period – one of the significant stages in the history of Ukrainian literary language.
