- The objective of this note is to examine whether the formalism of quantum mechanics follows from the 1905 energy squared = momentum squared + rest mass squared equation of Einstein, assuming positive and negative energies and using only linear algebra. In particular, it is examined whether zitterbewegung is present as well as noncommuting observables.
