- A film by Riri Riza titled Humba Dreams has various forms of speech, one of them is illocutionary speech acst. This study aims to describe the forms and the functions of illocutionary speech acts and Sumba culture in the film. The theory used in this research is Searle’s illocutionary speech acts. The technique used for collecting data is note-taking techniques. To analyze the data, researchers used the matching method and the determining element sorting technique as the basic technique. The result showed that there were five forms of illocutionary speech acts, such as assertive, directive, declarative, commisive, and expressive. The Sumba culture in the film is shown indirectly so it described and explained by the researchers. Keywords : film, pragmatics, speech acts, illocutionary, Sumba culture
