  • Women and politic have been an interesting discussion. This is the due to the prespective that politic has always been viewed as men's world since long time ago until recently. However this does not apply to the context of modern society in the Yogyakarta Special Territory. This was reflected in three regencies in Yogyakarta which just held the Regional Head election on july 23' 2010 by the presence of three female leaders in three regions. The elected pairs in Sleman Regency was Sri Pramono and Yuni, the elected pair in Bantul Regency was Sri Suryawidati and Soemarno and the elected pair in Gunung kidul Regency was Sumpeno and Badingah. This is definetely a significance change in politic remembering that Yogyakarta is dwelled by Javanese in Majority, which is a patriarchic society who believes more in maleleaders. Thus the myth saying that public officials especially head of regencies. M oreover, the mass media have spread a rumor that in 2011 Regional Head Election, one of the candidates for next major of Yogyakarta is a woman that is Diah Suminar and one of the candidates for regional head /vice regional head is also a woman that GKR Pembayun. This should be reviewed as a positive change in politics to build up democracy. This phenomenon is the result of many negative points of view towards women in politics and of the support from the state and the government for women's wish and participation by strengtheningtheir legal foundation. Therefore there are no more obstacles for women to fill in the position of public officials.
