- Self-esteem as a result of an individual's evaluation (cognition) of himself that affects emotions (affection) so that it displays accepting behavior and shows how much the individual believes in himself that he is valuable. Individuals who have low self-esteem usually tend to lack confidence, because they underestimate their own talents and feel no one values them. Based on the results of observations, interviews and the distribution of self-esteem questionnaires researchers conducted at school found students who have low self-esteem such as avoiding situations that trigger anxiety, lack of confidence and show a narrow range of emotions. From these problems the researchers tried to implement cognitive behavioral counseling services with restructuring techniques for students who have low self-esteem. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cognitive behavioral counseling with cognitive restructuring techniques on the self-esteem of grade VIII students at MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung in the 2016/2017 Academic Year. This type of research is quantitative by using pre-experimental designs with one-group pretest-posttest design research design. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII at MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung who were included in the criteria of low self-esteem. Then obtained 12 samples using saturated sampling techniques to handle these students. The average score of self-esteem scores before participating in cognitive behavioral counseling services cognitive restructuring techniques was 44.8 and after following cognitive behavioral counseling services with cognitive restructuring techniques increased to 65.8. From the results of the t-test with degrees of freedom df = 11 with a significant level α = 0.05 of 1.796. because tcount <of table (-13,472 <1,796), then Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted which means there is an influence on the application of behavioral cognitive counseling services with cognitive restructuring techniques on the self-esteem of class VIII students in MTs N 2 Bandar Lampung. Suggestions proposed by researchers, namely counseling guidance teachers are expected to be able to program and train students with the implementation of counseling guidance services to overcome the problems of students, especially in students who have negative self-assessment.
