  • Confidence is the key to self motivation. Every individual will need confidence every day in various ways, including students in following the learning process at school. A good level of confidence makes it easy to make decisions and smooth the way to make friends, build relationships, and help other individuals in building success. The purpose of this study is to find out whether poetry counseling as a medium of guidance and counseling is effective in increasing the confidence of grade VII students of SMPN 24 Bandar Lampung in the academic year 2015/2016. The type of research carried out is Quasi Experiment with Nonequivalent Control Group Design research design. The sample of this study was students of class VII at SMPN 24 Bandar Lampung who did not appear during the poetry reading competition and stand up comedy totaling 20 students, who were then given a confidence questionnaire that had been tested for validity. overall these students were in the low confidence category. Based on the results of the study, it is known that there is an increase in students' confidence after implementing poetry counseling services as a guidance and counseling media by obtaining df = 18 then compared to the table of 0.05, then the table = 2.101 and the value of t is greater than the table, (3,939 ≥ 2.101) . So it can be concluded that the group guidance service with poetry counseling as a medium of guidance and counseling can increase the confidence of students in class VII at SMPN 24 Bandar Lampung in the 2015/2016 Academic Year.
