- This study examines three pesantren in Southeast Sulawesi with three categories, namely the category of urban pesantren represented by the Ummushabri in Kendari, rural pesantren represented by the Raudhatul Jannah in West Muna District, and the transmigrant pesantren represented by An NuurAzubaidi in Konawe District. This research focused on the interaction, role, and contribution of pesantren in maintaining Islamic traditions and building community religiosity. The results showed that the interaction of Islamic boarding schools with santri and community outreach could not be separated socially, culturally, and religiously. These three things are united in daily relations and interactions between pesantren and santri and outreach communities. Two forms of social, cultural and religious interaction, namely the first role of the actor who is personal-subjective; and both institutional-structural institutional roles. The role of the actor in question is divided into two, the role of caregivers and the role of santri. This research confirms that Islamic boarding schools in Southeast Sulawesi portraits pesantren rakyat, because the people or the surrounding community build and support the life, growth and development of pesantren, not on the central figure as it does in Java.
