- The figure has a strategic place as a messenger and moral mandate that the author intends to convey. Through the introduction of characters and the techniques of painting characters, the course of the story will be clearer. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive research method. The data source in this study is the Andrea Circus Tree novel Circus Tree with a thickness of 410 pages. The data analysis technique is done by analyzing the types of figures and figure painting techniques then describing them. Based on the results of the study found 17 characters in the Circus Tree novel and as many as 7 types of characters in it which includes the main character, additional figures, antagonists, protagonists, simple characters, developing figures, and typical figures. Furthermore, it was found that the Circus Tree novel uses two character painting techniques, namely dramatic techniques and expository techniques.Tokoh mempunyai tempat strategis sebagai penyampai pesan dan amanat moral yang sengaja ingin disampaikan pengarang. Melalui pengenalan tokoh dan teknik pelukisan tokoh, jalannya cerita akan lebih jelas. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data pada penelitian ini adalah novel Sirkus Pohon karya Andrea Hirata dengan tebal buku 410 halaman. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan cara menganalisis jenis tokoh serta teknik pelukisan tokoh kemudian mendeskripsikannya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ditemukan 17 tokoh dalam novel Sirkus Pohon dan sebanyak 7 jenis tokoh didalamnya yang meliputi tokoh utama, tokoh tambahan, tokoh antagonis, tokoh protagonis, tokoh sederhana, tokoh berkembang, dan tokoh tipikal. Selanjutnya, ditemukan bahwa novel Sirkus Pohon menggunakan dua teknik pelukisan tokoh, yaitu teknik dramatik dan teknik ekspositori.Kata kunci: tokoh, novel, jenis tokoh dan pelukisan tokoh
