  • The objective of the study was to find out whether the use of comics as teaching media is effective to improve students’ speaking achievement or not. A quasi experimental research design wasused in the study. The population of the study was eleventh graders of SMA NASIMA Semarang in the academic year 2015/2016 with the number of population around 69 students. Non-equivalent group pre-test post-test design was used in the study. Two classes were taken as the sample with the total numbers of students was 49 students. The data were collected by doing pre-test and post-test of speaking. They were; pre-test and post-test.From the data analysis of post-test, the result showed that the mean of the control class was 73.91 and the mean of experimental was 80.53 while Sig. (2-tailed) of post-test was 0.005(<0.05). Based on the analysis, it could be concluded that comic as teaching media for the eleventh grade of SMA NASIMA Semarang in academic year 2015/2016 was effective to improve students’ speaking achievement.
