THE MAIN CHARACTERS’ STRUGGLES TOWARD AMERICAN DREAM VALUES AMONG MODERN SOCIETY AS REFLECTED IN THE GOOD LIE FILM

- This study analyzes the struggles of three main characters toward American dream among modern society as reflected in The Good Lie film. The aims of this study are to identify American Dream Values and to analyze main character’s struggles toward the American Dream among modern society. This study uses James Thruslow Adam’s American Dream theory. The method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The Good Lie film was the primary data in the form of monologues and dialogues in the film. The secondary data were taken from the e-books, e-journals, essays, articles, and website. Morever, watching the film, reading the scripts of the film, identifying the data, classifying the data, and reducing the data were the processes of the data collecting method. The last was data analyzing supported by the attachment of appendices and related theory descriptively. This study concludes two points. First, there are three points of American Dream Values, which are Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness. The main characters’ life are gradually changing into the better after arriving to America. They have the freedom to choose what they want to do in their life, and in this case, they want to pursue their dream. Second, there are three characters in this film, which are Mamere, Paul, and Jeremiah. In achieving the American dream Values, they have to survive among modern society, such as education, public welfare service, and advanced industry as well as technology.
