George Floyd is a 46-year-old black man died due to police brutality on May 25. Due to this issue, hashtag #BlackLivesMatter has shown up and trending again since its first appearance in July 2013. Since that become trending and get huge attention from many people from some countries, there are some people made a community called as Black Lives Matter (BLM) then they also made a website for people who wants to join as member in that international community. The website is blacklivesmatter.com. In this research, used two news media as the source of the information related to Black Lives Matter and Donald Trump. News media that used in this research are Reuters and New YorkTimes.
This research used the theory from Theo Van Leeuwen which is Social Actor-Network theory. In that theory divided into two big majors, those are exclusion and inclusion. Exclusion itself divided into two sub-theory, which are suppression and backgrounding. While inclusion divided into 18 sub theories. Then, the method that used by the writer to finished this research is qualitativemethod.
The result of this research is the major’s theory that used by Reuters and New York Times is only inclusion. Then, from inclusion itself, there are only some sub-theories that used by those two news media. Sub-theories that used by Reuters and New York Times arenomination
– formalization, categorization, activation, determination, passivation – subjected and beneficialized, and also specification.
