Unlike the violence we have known, where the effects can be clearly recognized. Symbolic violence is a type of violence that is difficult to recognize, because it is very subtle, so that the victim may not recognize the violence. And the impact given is long-term. This thesis is aim to describe what kind of symbolic violence reflected in The Giver novel and identify how it is delivered, also reveals the impact it causes.&#xD; In this study, the writer applies Pierre Bourdieu&#x2019;s perspective of symbolic violence, in which symbolic violence is violence wielded with tacit complicity between its victims and its agents, insofar as both remain unconscious of submitting to or wielding it. For the method, the writer uses descriptive qualitative method and typically library research. The data are in the form of dialogues and narrations. Further, this thesis applies a sociological approach in order to look at the relationship between literary work and society&#x2019;s life elements that happen in daily life.&#xD; The result of this analysis shows, there are six symbolic violences found in The Giver novel experienced by the community, they are; eliminating personal variation to avoid destruction, preventing personal space to control action, repressing choice to avoid mistakes, suppressing emotions and feelings as a preventive measure, finishing people's life as a form of respect, and manipulating memory as a form of protection. Furthermore, the perpetrators are the committees, the Chief of Elder, and Jonas' father. While the victims are the community, including Jonas' father and Jonas himself. Thus, Jonas' father is also a member of the community who has experienced symbolic violence.
