- The main objective of translation is to deliver the message from source language into target language. In that case, the writer believes that a proper technique needs to be applied in order to get proper result of translation. Thus, related to the translation technique, the writer is interested in analyzing the translation strategy used by the translator in translating Surah Muhammad in Al-Quran. Further, the objective of this research is to describe and classify the types of category shift translation in translating Surah Muhammad in Al-Quran from English to Indonesian. In doing the analysis, the writer applied descriptive qualitative method and proposed Catford theory (1965). As the result of this analysis, the writer finds out that the total of category shift used in Surah Muhammad in total is 45 data, that consists of structure shift (25 data), class shift (4 data), unit shift (10 data) and intra-system shift (6 data). Thus, based on the total of data finding, the writer also notices that the most used category shifts that occur in the English – Indonesian texts of Surah Muhammad in Holy Qur’an is structure shift translation.
