- Animus is the masculine image in a woman’s psyche or in other word, it is the representative of male’s personality in woman’s psyche. Thus, it can be said that a woman who possessed an animus means that she has some characteristics that is man-like. Hence, regarding to that phenomenon, the writer is interested in discussing an animus personality that is reflected in one of the female characters of literary works. In this case, the literary work that is chosen by the writer is City of Bones by Cassandra Clare. It makes the aims of this research is to analyze the animus personality possessed by the main character of Clary in the novel. Further, in doing the analysis, the writer applied descriptive qualitative method and proposed Jung’s theory of stages of animus. As the result of the research, it shows that the main character of Clary in the story of the novel shows that the level of animus is developed based on the stages of Jung’s theory, they are; The Man of Power, The Man of Deed, The Man of Word and lastly, The Man of Meaning. In other word, along with the storyline, characterization of Clary is developed and her animus can be controlled without dominating her femininity
