  • In this modern era, there is another way in enjoying literary work, that is by adapting novel into film version. Regarding to that, the purpose of adapting the story from book into big screen also to re-display the story in a literary work from reading media into moving image media or in other word, from text into audio-visual. Further, the process of adapting novel into film is known as ecranisation. Thus, related to the ecranisation, the writer is interested in analyzing one of the famous novels written by Dan Brown that also being adapted into film version by Ron Howard entitled Inferno. In doing the analysis, the writer applied descriptive qualitative method and proposed Eneste’s theory in analyzing the process of ecranisation that are divided into three main points, they are; reduction, addition and modification. As the result of this research, the writer found that there are about 8 scenes that are categorized as reduction scenes, 8 scenes that are categorized as addition and finally, there are 17 scenes that are categorized as modification scenes. Also the writer found out that the motives of the director is doing reduction is to save time duration in making the film so that the time is efficient (not too long), while the addition and modification part is done in order to make the story more live and interesting by adding audio-visual effect and modification some scenes.
