  • This research is aimed to find the causes of psychopathic personality disorder and the sympthoms of the main character namely Frederick Clegg, a man character who has an obsession with Miranda. The writer studied The Collector by Jhon Fowles as a unit analysis and used psychological approach and Psychopahic personality disorder theory by Stefan Verstappen and sharpened theory by Dr. Robert D. Hare. The writer used qualitative-descriptive analysis as the method of the research, which tried to explain about the causes and the sympyhoms of psychopathic personality disorder in Frederick Clegg’s character. Based on the result of the data analysis, the writer found the cause factor that make Frederick Clegg to be a psychopath, it was from his social condition especially from his family circum. Moreover, the writer reveals the sympthoms of psychopathic personality disorder in Frederick Clegg’s characters, they are: callousness and lack of empathy, grandiose sense of self worth, pathological lying, conning and manipulative, lack remorse and guilt, poor behaviour controls, lack of realistic long-term goals, and antisocial.
