The theory used in this research is 3 dimensional models by Fairclough. The method are descriptive quantitative textual practice by Fairclough used Sketch engine automatic calculation while the descriptive qualitative through discourse practice and social practice analysis by Fairclough. The reseult of this discussion shown that (1) through textual practice analysis, the researcher found that health becomes the main topic in present cigarette coverage news. Tjp promotes a healthy life and present point of view tat cigarette dangerous for human health and people need to protect children from cigarette. The Jakarta Post present the idea that government need to pay more attention to cigarette regulation on ads, promortion, packaging and cigarette use in public. The Jakarta Post motivated government to increase cigarette excise although The Jakarta Post also reports that hand-rolled clove cigarette industry is under pressure cause by cigarette excise. (2) While through discourse practice the researcer found that The Jakarta Post report cigarette in objective ways which shown from the modes choose by the author in reports cigarette topic 73% is DD while 23% are ID.
