- Ants are insects that play an important role in forest ecosystems as a predator, scavenger and can be used as indicators of environmental change. This study aims to determine the species, abundance and distribution of ants on the stands of teak with different age classes and different site index (bonita). The study was conducted in BKPH Sonde, KPH Ngawi on teak stand age class I, II, and III with the high and low site index (bonita). This study used pitfall traps placed at ground level. After 24 hours, captured ants were collected and identified. Environmental factors such as the thickness of litter, litter and soil water content and soil pH were determined. The results showed 15 species of ants was found in the teak stand. Most ant species (10 species) can be found in all age classes and site index (bonita). Some very specific species of ants such as Pyramica sp. was found only in age classes III and Odontomachus similimus was found only in high site index (bonita) species of ant found in bonita. The similarity index of ants among sites was very high (0.85-1). Diversity index of ants ranged between 1.85 and 1.01 and the abundance ranged from 9.1 to 44.2 individuals / trap.
