  • ABSTRACT Reading is a basic ability in science education, and the most important to be mastered by children. Study of the development of a prototype reading tool based on engagement theory for elementary reading comprehension instruction was intended too see how far the prototype can help the children in their reading comprehension, and to test the children acceptance toards the prototype. Reseacher took 107 students of 5th grade elementary school from 3 schools in West Jakarta. Interviews and the Technology Acceptance Model questionnaires were used to collect data. The result showed that: (1) the children showed an interest in prototype tool to understand the reading (2) the variables of perceived ease of use and perceived of usefulness influenced behavioral intention the students to used the prototype of the reading comprehension tool
