  • THE UTILIZATION OF GUAVA LEAF (Psidii folium) AS CORROSION BIOINHIBITOR OF CARBON STEEL Fertarina Pratiwi, 2014, 50 Pages, 11 Tables, 16 Pictures, 4 Enclosures Guava leaf extract is organic materials that can be use as inhibitor to reduce corrosion rate of low carbon steel on hydrochloric acid. The using of guava leaf extract is can be expected to be one of inhibitors which is safe, friendly environment and biodegradable and also can reduce the using of synthetic inhibitors. Guava leaf inhibitors have been chosen as organic inhibitors because it is containing antioxidant that can be reduce corrosion process like tannin. Extraction is a method to get guava leaf extract with maceration during one week. Weight loss method is used to test the effectiveness of guava leaf extract as an inhibitor on low carbon steel sized 4cmx2,6cmx0,24cm with various concentration of corrosive medium ((HCl 1M, 2M, 3M, 4M and 5M) and period of immersion test (1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks, 4 weeks and 5 weeks). The result of research showed that total of tannin in guava leaf extract is 0,4823%. The most effective of guava leaf extract is using on hydrochloric acid 1M solution with immersion test one week and efficiency 73,7302%. Key words : Corrosion, low carbon steel, guava leaf, tannin, inhibitor corrosion.
