  • Water is determinant of the sustainability of life on the earth because water is consumed in addition also used in a variety of activities. Water wells is potentially great for destroying the environment, because it has the characteristics that levels of Fe and Mn in high levels in excess of the threshold. Therefore it is necessary that the acid mine drainage treatment by utilizing activated carbon made from bamboo. The purpose of this research is to make use of activated carbon from bamboo to lower levels of the metals iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) in acid mine drainage, utilizing results of previous studies conducted by Nurul Kurniati in 2011. On testing characteristics of activated carbon from bamboo by using Activator phosphoric acid 2 M have characteristics, i.e. water content rate of 4.28%, ash 8,36%, absorption iod 799,53 Mg/g. Decrease in metallic iron (Fe) optimum acid mine drainage by using activated carbon from bamboo phosphoric Activator 2 M occurs at the time of absorption 2 hours with a mass of 15 grams of activated carbon absorption and efficiency of 70.05%. Drop in metals manganese (Mn) in acid mine drainage is not very good because of the concentration of manganese (Mn) growing, this happens because there are Manganese (Mn) in bamboo.
