- APPLICATION OF ELECTRCOAGULATION METHOD IN PURIFICATION OF MUSI RIVER WATER BY USING ALUMINUM ELECTRODES (Liza Humairoh, 2014. 45 pages, 2 tables, 12 pictures, 3 appendixes) Musi River is a river in Palembang which is used for various community activities such as clean water and drinking water. However, nowadays Musi river is used as waste disposal industry and human activity so that the quality of water decreases. The increasing of contaminant levels in water causes the water treatment plant requires the addition chemicals (alum) on the coagulationflocculation process. Addition of chemical can be increase of operational costs needed. So, electrocoagulation method will be done to reduce contaminants in water. Electrocoagulation is coagulation process and the deposition of particulates contained in the water using electrical energy. This research was carried out in batch using aluminum electrodes with dimensions of 16.3 cm x 8 cm x 0.2 cm. The parameters measured are turbidity, pH, Dissolved Oxygen (DO), TDS (Total Dissolved Solid) and conductivity by varying the voltage of 18 and 24 volts and high of the submerged electrode 3, 6, 9, 12 and 15 cm for 15 minutes. The optimum conditions for each parameter is at 24 volts and the voltage electrode height of 15 cm with a low level of contaminants in parameter 1.12 NTU turbidity, TDS 38.06 mg/L and the conductivity of 42.50 microseconds/cm and increases the value of DO 7.77 and pH 8.57 in the Musi river water. Keywords: river water, electrocoagulation, clean water
