Cooking Oil Adsorption Results
( Marisontara, 2014, 62 pages, 13 tables, 12 pictures, 4 appendixes)
The use of cooking oil repeatedly at high temperature will cause the oil rancid
smell, the smell is caused because of the high moisture content, free fatty acid
levels and the density which in turn will affect the quality and the nutrition of
fried food. One alternative process of waste cooking oil is the adsorption process
using rice husk ash and bentonite. This study aimed to reduce levels of free fatty
acids (FFA), moisture content and density contained in the waste cooking oil by
using rice husk ash and bentonite. Methods in the study include: activation of rice
hull ash and bentonite, then adsorption process with 2 variations there were
3,4,5,6 and 7 grams of adsorbent mass on the stirring speed of 400 rpm, 500 rpm
and 600 rpm. Then did an analysis on the result of oil adsorption that included
free fatty acid levels, moisture content, density, color and odor. The result showed
that the best results on the adsorption conditions was 7 grams of adsorbent mass
and stirring speed of 600 rpm with free fatty acid levels at 1.6384%, 0.342%
water content and density 0.9053 gr/ml and the clear yellow and odorless .
