  • IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF PENETRATION VALUE OF SYNTHETIC ASPHALT MIXTURE USED PLASTIC (POLYPROPHILENE) AND TIRE WITH SULFUR ADDITION (Nurul Sevtiola, 2014, 61 Pages, 21 Tables, 20 Figures, 4 Appendixs) The characteristics of the synthetic asphalt that still not meet the standards. One of the significant characteristics of the bitumen is penetration value, to improve the quality of asphalt penetration values in this study, the addition of sulfur into synthetic asphalt mixture. The purpose of this study was to determine the composition of sulfur that must be added to the synthetic asphalt in order to obtain the corresponding standards of penetration values . The research methodology by varying the composition of sulfur added to the asphalt synthetic samples, with variation of sulfur at 2%, 4%, 6% and 8%. Analysis parameters examined, ie penetration, softening point, flash point, ductility, and asphalt density. From the analysis, the value of penetration bitumen standard penetration reached 80/99 is the 3rd sample with a composition of 15% plastic, 30% of used tires and used cooking oil 55%. In this condition the penetration value obtained is equal to 97.4 with the addition of as much as 6% sulfur. Keywords: synthetic asphalt, plastic, polypropylene, penetration, sulfur
