  • UTILIZATION RICE STRAW AS FEEDSTOCKS ON BIOETHANOL PRODUCTION USING STEAM EXPLOSION PRETREATMENT METHOD (Anjar Eko Saputro, 2014, 49 pages, 14 tables, 16 pictures, 4 attachments) The growing need for energy, along with rising fossil fuel prices in the market and continued depletion of fossil fuels has led to the limitation of energy for the community. This problem requires a search of alternative fuels as a solution to the energy constraints. Biomass is an organic material contained in the existing plants on land and at sea with abundant source can be used as a source of renewable energy. Rice straw is lignocellulosic biomass materials that can be converted into bioethanol. To make bioethanol from rice straw pretreatment is necessary so that rice straw can be made into bioethanol. The purpose of this research is to utilize rice straw as raw material for bioethanol production using steam explosion pretreatment method. Pretreatment of steam explosion pretreatment is carried out in the manufacture of bioethanol feedstock lignocellulosic with rice straw. Steam explosion pretreatment can work to break down lignin into a barrier enzymes to convert cellulose and hemicellulose contained in rice straw. This study uses two parameters, namely the measurement of the time variation of pretreatment with 10, 15, and 20 min and fermentation time with a variation of 3.5 and 7 days. Of research resulted in the highest ethanol content obtained at the time of pretreatment and fermentation time 15 minutes 5 days with levels of ethanol produced at 65.919% with a total of 12 mL volume.
