  • POME (Palm Oil Mill Effluent) is one type of industrial waste that can contaminate soil, groundwater, and also water environment. Along with the increase production of crude palm oil in Indonesia will increase the amount of waste generated. In the palm wastewater contains many pollutants that can harm the environment, such as organic compounds. For that we need a method that can be used in processing palm wastewater, one of them using electrocoagulation. Application of the electrocoagulation method in treating wastewater has done by varying the voltage and processing time. Variation of the applied voltage are 6 V, 9 V, and 12 V with a variation of the processing time are 30, 60, 90, 120, and 150 minutes of the parameters include COD, BOD5, pH, TSS, oil/grease and NH3-N. The result showed that the optimum condition at a voltage of 12 V and processing time of 150 minutes, with a COD value of 80 mg/L; BOD5¬ of 23.7 mg/L; pH of 7.46; TSS of 32.4 mg/L; oils/fats of 17.8 mg/L; NH3-N concentration of 0.65 mg/L respectively, the results accordance with environmental quality standards. It shows that the technical feasibility of electrocoagulation method as a reliable technique for removal of pollutants from POME.
