Isolation transformer is a critical part of the power transformer, insulation deterioration or failure can cause failure of the operation or even damage the transformer. This measurement aims to determine the condition of the insulation between windings to ground or between the two windings. A common method is to provide a DC voltage and the present condition of the insulation with a unit of Mega ohms. Insulation resistance is a function of the measured leakage current that penetrates past the insulation or leaking through the external surface. Insulation resistance testing can be influenced by temperature, humidity and leaking lines on the external surfaces such as dirt on the bushing or insulator.
