  • Palm oil industries producing so many palm oil mill effluent (POME) and it should be processed before the waste dumped into the environment. The treatment can be decrease BOD, COD, TSS and pH value with adsorption by activated carbon. Activated carbon in this research is using materials that contains carbon and have low value; bagasses, cocopeat, and palm fruit shells. This research purposing to know absorption of activated carbon as adsorbent with decrease percentage level of BOD, COD, TSS so the results is appropriet quality standart of waste water. Process of making activated carbon through the step of dehydration with sun lighting, carbonization for 2 hours in 500oC and continued with grinding and sizing ( 60 and 20 mesh). The next step is activation of activated carbon using ZnCl2 with variations of concentration 5%; 10%; 15%; 20%; 25% for 24 hours and finally activated carbon applied in POME waste treatment.In that process is gain optimum particle size 200 mesh with ZnCl2 concentration 25% and it showed by decrease percentage level of BOD 54,14%, COD 57,09%, TSS 51,5% and pH value 7,32 in POME.
