- (Ahmad Banuaji, 2015, 61 Pages, 17 Tables, 23 Pictures, 4 Attachments) Biomass rotary dryer prototype in this study was used to dry the biomass’ raw materials. The purpose of making this protoype was to improve the quality of the biomass to be used as raw material for fuel, in which the water content permitted in the manufacture of solid fuels is ≤ 8% based on the national standard. The benefit of manufacturing this protoype is ,in a laboratory scale, it can be used as asupplementary learning material for students majoring in Chemical Engineering and Energy Engineering especially in the field of heat transfer and biomass technologies. The test parameters of this study were the variety of drying period which were varied from 0.5 hours, 1 hour, 1.5 hours and 2 hours. The study itself was focused on observing the influence of the drying period on the percentage water reduction, determining the rate of drying equipment and comparing the changes in the calorific value of biomass’ raw material from drying period. The data taken to calculate the reduction of water content were performed four times with 250 grams of merawan sawdust and it was shown that the optimal drying period was 1.5 hours of drying period. The datas were obtained as follows: 1.5 hours drying period, 1.11% of residual water content with a drying rate of 0.712 kg / h m2 and the calorific value of the product was 5203.69 cal / g.
