  • Water hyacinth can be used as raw material for the manufacture of particle board because they contain cellulose are quite high. Similarly, polypropylene and polystyrene plastic waste which has been the waste of unused and harm the environment so that it can be used as an adhesive in the manufacture of particle board. The purpose of this study was to obtain particle board of hyacinth with a variation ratio of the amount of adhesive polypropylene and polystyrene, to obtain particle board with an adhesive composition PS: PP in accordance with standard JIS A 5908-2003. The composition of the water hyacinth and the adhesive is 60:40 and the adhesive composition ratio between polystyrene and polypropylene (100: 0, 70:30, 50:50, 30:70, 0: 100). Particle board is made measuring 20 cm x 5 cm x 1 cm by using hotpress at a pressure of 15 kgf / cm2, the temperature of 1500C, for 30 minutes. Results showed that the water content, density, water absorption, and thickness swelling successive 7,00- 11,77%, 0,43 to 0,58 g/cm3, 30,76 to 82.04%, 4, 76 to 28.20%. The whole value of density and moisture content meets the standards JIS A 5908-2003, to value the development of thick, not all of them meet the standards. MOR values for 2 samples of particle board that is best obtained from the testing of physical properties is 70,20 kg / cm2 and 58,87 kg / cm2 not meet the standards. The best adhesive composition ratio variation between PS: PP is 100: 0 were obtained from all the test results. Keywords: Water hyacinth, Polypropylene, Polystyrene, Particle board
