ABSTRAK Rendahnya kualitas pakan menjadi salah satu penyebab rendahnya produktivitas ternak penghasil daging khususnya sapi, oleh karena itu hijauan harus diolah sehingga menghasilkan pakan yang berkualitas salah satunya yaitu dibuat silase. Untuk menghasilkan silase, hijauan harus dipotong-potong sehingga ukurannya lebih kecil dari 5 cm. Mesin pencacah rumput gajah tipe reel yang ada di Laboratorium Alat dan Mesin Pertanian Jurusan TMIP Unpad belum ada data spesifikasi teknik dan data uji kinerjanya sehingga dibutuhkan penelitian mengenai itu. Penelitian dilakukan pada bulan Juli sampai September 2013 di Laboratorium Alat dan Mesin Pertanian serta Bengkel Logam, Kayu, dan Rotan Unpad. Metode yang digunakan adalah analisis deskriptif yaitu melakukan pengukuran, pengamatan, perhitungan serta menganalisis sehingga menghasilkan data kelayakan mesin. Hasil analisis teknik yaitu kebutuhan daya penggerak 2,37 HP, diameter poros 23,09 mm, diameter pin 5,05 mm, ukuran spi motor (6,25 x 6,25 x 37,5) mm3, ukuran spi pencacah (10,75 x 10,75 x 64,5) mm3, umur bantalan 7622,04 jam, transmisi dengan 2 sabuk, lendutan rangka 0,05 mm dan kekuatan las 29.580 N sudah memenuhi kelayakan teknis kecuali spi belum sesuai dengan ukuran yang dianjurkan. Hasil uji kinerja yaitu bulk density 162,618 kg/m3 kapasitas aktual 4088,99 kg/jam, efisiensi mesin 73,78%, daya pencacahan 1,89 HP, energi spesifik 1,558 kJ/kg, rendemen 96,02%, persentase panjang hasil potongan 85,86%, tingkat kebisingan 104 dB dan tingkat getaran 47,3 mm/s, secara keseluruhan memenuhi spesifikasi kinerjanya kecuali tingkat kebisingan dan getaran masih belum sesuai dengan standar yang ditetapkan. ABSTRACT The low quality of feed become one of the caused of low productivity of the livestock meat producer especially beef, Therefore that must be processed to produced the forage of quality feed one of them is made silage. To produced the forage of silage must be dismembered until it is size is smaller than 5 cm. A cutting machine of elephant grass type of reel in Laboratory tools and machinery of Agricultural in department of TMIP Unpad there wasn’t technical specification data and performance test data so it is needed the research about it. The research was conducted from July to September 2013 in the Laboratory the tools and Machinery of agricultural, and workshop of Metal, Wood, and Rattan Unpad. The methods used is the descriptive analysis namely: measurement, observation, calculations and analyze the resulting data feasibility of machine. The results of technical analysis are the power requirements activator is 2.37 HP, The diameter of shaft is 23.09 mm, the diameter of pin is 5.05 mm, the size of spi motor is (6.25 x 6.25 x 37.5) mm3, the size of spi enumerator is (10.75 x 10.75 x 64.5) mm3, the life hours of bearing is 7622.04 hours, the transmission with two belts, the framework deflection is 0.05 mm and the weld strength is 29.580 N have met the technical feasibility except spi that is worn on both the shaft not in accordance with the size of being advisable. The results of the performance test are bulk density is 162.618 kg/m3, the actual capacity is 4088.99 kg/hour, efficiency of the engine is 73.78%, the power of enumeration is 1.89 HP, the specific energy 1.558 kJ/kg, rendemen 96.02%, presentation of the results of long reduction is 85.85%, the noise level is 104 dB and vibration levels is 47.3 mm/s, Overall meet the specifications performance except noise level and vibration still not according with established standards.
