Description of Enamel Print Pattern in Deutero-Malay Sub Race Based on Extracted Female Permanent Maxillary Central Incisors

  • Teeth are the most indestructible components of the human body due to its quality to withstand extreme temperatures and resistant to post-mortem decomposition. Teeth managed to survive most of the natural disasters and are consider as a possible tool for personal identification. Ameloglyphics is the study of the enamel rod end patterns on tooth surface. These enamel rod ends will form specific enamel print patterns on the tooth surface and is highly unique for every tooth. The aim of this research is to study and analyse the enamel print pattern in Deutero-Malay sub race based on extracted female permanent maxillary central incisors. A total of 31 teeth samples were enrolled in this descriptive analytic study using purposive sampling method. Photomicrographs of samples were taken and the digital photo were then analysed using SourceAFIS biometric software. The results showed that there were combination of few sub-patterns. The most prominent sub-pattern was linear-branched (21.36%), in decreasing orders of prominence were the wavy-branched (19.42%), wavy-unbranched (16.50%) and linear-unbranched (15.53%). The less common sub-patterns were the whorl-open (9.71%), loop (6.80%), whorl-closed (5.83%) and stem-like (4.85%). In conclusion, the results do not show any similarity in enamel print pattern in every samples. Hence, this method can be a possible method for personal identification.
