  • Evaluation of dental arches is importance for diagnosis and treatment in orthodontics. The perimeter or circumference affects the dimension of the dental arch and it changes according to age and gender. The aim of this research is to measure the difference of maxillary and mandibular intermolar width between gender which is male and female students in RSGM UNPAD. This research is a comparative analytical research by comparing the maxillary and mandibular intermolar width value between male and female students in RSGM UNPAD. Purposive sampling technique is used for data collection where minimally 30 dental models were selected from each batches. The study was conducted in Orthodontic Department and RSGM UNPAD by 94 samples from batch 2013 until 2015. The data was analyzed by using Kolmogorov – Smirnov test and Independent Sample T-test. The result showed that the average value of maxilla intermolar width for male and female are 49.36mm and 46.75mm respectively. While the average value of mandibular intermolar width for male and female are 43.17mm and 40.50mm respectively. According to the normality test, the p-value obtained is more than 0.05 indicated the samples were distributed evenly for mandibular and maxillary arches. While in independent sample t-test, the p-value obtained is 0.000 for both arches, In conclusion, the differences in maxillary and mandibular first intermolar width among male and female students in RSGM UNPAD were significant.
