- Sugarcane is one of important crop for staple food across the world due to its content of sugar in the stem. Sugarcane production is depend on water availability in the field. Sometimes water distribution rain is unbalance in some places, so that water scarcity will occur when rainfall is low. By using high-quality of crop seedlings especially from tissue culture which as a tolerance to drought stress, it is an effort to overcome these conditions. This research aimed to evaluate the tolerance level of sugarcane varieties derived from tissue culture under drought stress condition. Experiments were conducted at plastic house in Faculty of Agriculture, Padjadjaran University, Jatinangor, West Java, from October 2018 to January 2019. The design of the experiment was used a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with eight treatments, four replications, and each plot consisted of three plants. The treatment consisted of four different types of sugarcane varieties namely PSJT 941, PS 862, PSJK 922, and Kidang Kencana under conditions of stress and no drought stress. The result showed that there were difference responses among sugarcane variety on growth and physiological responses in leaves. PSJT 941 gave the best response on plant height, leaves number, tillers number, stomatal conductance, sugar content, canopy dry weight, root volume, root length. Where as PSJK 922 gave the best response on root dry weight, and another Kidang Kencana gave best responses on chlorophyll fluorescence.
