COMPARISON WIDTH OF MAXILLARY ANTERIOR TEETH OF MALAYSIAN MALAYS, CHINESE, AND INDIANS

- The mesiodistal width of dentition measurement in different race is important for prosthodontics, anthropology and forensic field. Previous research has proven that various dental crown sizes are shown in different populations. Also the tooth dimensions were greater in males than females. This research was to investigate the differences between men’s mesiodistal widths of maxillary anterior tooth of the three main ethnics in Malaysia. The research method involved cross sectional observations conducted in a convenience sampling from 90 male Malaysians who consisted of 30 Malays, 30 Chinese and 30 Indians purebred over at least two generations. The positive model study was collected from samples and mesiodistal widths of maxillary anterior teeth were measured on the study model. The samples’ tooth size of the maxillary anterior teeth was measured and recorded. Each measurement was completed to obtain mean values of the mesiodistal width, the left and right canine, the left and right lateral incisor as well as the left and right center incisor. In conclusion, the mesiodistal width of the maxillary anterior tooth of Malaysian Malay, Chinese and Indian are different.
