PROFIL KUALITAS SEMEN SEGAR SAPI PEJANTAN LIMOUSIN DENGAN UMUR YANG BERBEDA DI BALAI INSEMINASI BUATAN LEMBANG JAWA BARAT

- ABSTRAK Penelitian dilaksanakan di Balai Inseminasi Buatan (BIB) Lembang. Materi penelitian berupa 2059 catatan kualitas semen segar tahun 2010 – 2012 dari sapi pejantan Limousin. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui profil kualitas semen segar sapi pejantan Limousin pada tingkat umur yang berbeda dan mengetahui hubungan pertambahan umur individu dengan kualitas semen yang diproduksi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata kualitas semen segar sapi pejantan Limousin di BIB Lembang secara berturut-turut adalah warna: susu; volume: 7,49 ± 2,25 ml; konsentrasi spermatozoa: 1460,88 ± 419,96 juta/ml; dan motilitas 67,56 ± 13,99 persen. Volume semen, konsentrasi spermatozoa, dan motilitas spermatozoa dipengaruhi oleh umur pejantan (P<0,01), dengan nilai korelasi berturut-turut 0,27; 0,28; 0,167. Kesimpulan (1) Pejantan Limousin di BIB Lembang memiliki kualitas semen yang baik, dan dapat diproses menjadi semen beku; (2) tiap individu menghasilkan semen segar dengan kualitas yang berbeda, meskipun dipelihara dengan sistem dan manajemen pakan yang seragam; dan (3) Pertambahan umur pejantan memiliki korelasi positif dengan volume, sedangkan umur pejantan memiliki korelasi negatif dengan motilitas spermatozoa dan konsentrasi spermatozoa. Namun, secara umum baik volume semen, motilitas spermatozoa, dan konsentrasi spermatozoa masih dalam kisaran normal. Kata kunci: kualitas semen, umur, pejantan Limousin ABSTRACT The purpose of this research was to determine the profile of the fresh semen quality of Limousin bulls at different age and to determine the relationship between increasing age and fresh semen quality produced by limousin bulls. Two thousand and fifty nine semen quality records in 2010-2012 of Limousin bulls were used in this experiment. The results showed that the average of the semen quality of limousin bulls in the centre of Artificial Insemination in Lembang for color, volume, concentration and motility were milky, 7.49±2.25 ml; 1460.88±419.96 million/ml and 67.56±13.99 percent, respectively. Semen volume, sperm concentration and motility of spermatozoa were affected (P<0.01) by the age of bulls, which had a correlation values of 0.27; 0.28 and 0.167, respectively. Conclusion (1) Limousin bulls at the centre of Artificial Insemination in Lembang had a good semen quality, and can be processed into frozen semen, (2) The individual bulls produced semen with different qualities, though maintained with the same feed management, and (3) The increase of the bull age had a positive correlation with the volume. However it had a negative correlation with spermatozoa motility and concentration of spermatozoa. Nevertheless, semen volume, spermatozoa motility and concentration of spermatozoa were still within the normal range. Key words: semen quality, age, Limousin bulls
