  • Writing is one of the most difficult of the four skills in learning English. The factors are caused by the stigma of students thinking that writing is something that is tedious, requires the content or the proper way to write, and coupled with a good mastery of grammar. To be skillful in writing, teacher can build the strategy by using media as part of the initial draw to improve students’ writing ability. One of medias is Flashcard. The aims of this research are to know the students’ writing ability before using Flashcard media in classroom, to find out the students’ writing ability after using Flashcard media in classroom and to reveal the significance of the use of Flashcard media to improve students’ writing ability in classroom. The method of this research is quasi-experimental and uses one group pre-test-post-test design. This research was conducted at SMPN 13 Bandung. The total number of population is 303 students and this research took sample from VIII-D with 32 students. The test included pre-test and post-test. The post-test and pre-test were to make narrative text based on picture series posted on the wall and the whiteboard provided by the researcher. Statistical computation was used to analyzed data. The result of data analysis shows that the average score of students’ writing ability before using Flashcard media is 66.36, while the average score of students’ writing ability after using Flashcard media is 77.95. The result of computation of Wilcoxon test is by the result Z_count = 4.92 is bigger than Z_table = 1.64. Therefore, H_a accepted and it means that that there is significant difference of students’ writing ability after using Flashcard media Based on the result of this research, it can be concluded that the use of Flashcard media can improve students’ writing ability. It means that there is significant difference after using Flashcard media. Therefore, the use of Flashcard media can be one of reliable teaching medias to improve students’ writing ability.
