- This research analyzes about “A Contrastive Analysis of Imperative Sentence between English and Indonesian Language in Dead Poets Society Final Script.” The main reason of this research chooses contrastive of imperative sentences because the researcher wanders the similarities and differences between English and Indonesian language. The researcher focuses to the types of imperative sentences that are used in Dead Poets Society Final Script and what are differences and similarities of imperative sentences types and forms found in Dead Poets Society Final Script. One of the main characters of Dead Poets Society is Keating. The researcher chooses Keating’s character in the script because he is one of the affecting character in the story. Then the data are categorized based on Downing and Philip’s theory (2006) of imperative to identify imperative types, Lado’s theory (1996) to know similarities and differences between English and Indonesian language imperative sentence, Eppler and Grabriel Ozon’s theory (2013) to explain command imperative, Rue’s theory (2008) to explain request imperative, Thomson and Martinet’s theory (1979) to explain invitation imperative, halliday’s theory (2004) to explain prohibition imperative and Alwi’s theory (2010) to explain types of imperative in Indonesian language. In doing this research, the researcher uses the descriptive qualitative method. Descriptive qualitative method describes the data systematically, factually and accurately. The data of this research are collected by the technique of library research data from Dead Poets Society Final Script. The types of English imperative sentences are 40 commands, 5 requests, 1 suggestion, 1 invitation, 1 advice, and 12 prohibitions. Meanwhile in Indonesian language, there are 40 kalimat perintah biasa (ordinary imperative), 6 permintaan (request), 0 ajakan (invitation), 0 permohonan (appeal imperative), 1 pembiaran (let imperative), and 12 larangan (prohibition). The contrastive between English and Indonesian language is not any kalimat perintah permbiaran (let imperative) in English and both in English and Indonesian language imperative sentence, command is dominant than the others of imperative types.
