  • The background of this research is that students' mathematics learning outcomes are low, especially on the subject of functions. This is due to students who are passive in learning, unable to express their ideas or opinions so that students experience difficulties in learning mathematics. When learning mathematics takes place, most students do not dare to express their opinions when the teacher asks the students just stay silent and do not give an answer so that the teacher is confused whether the student has understood or did not understand the material presented. The purpose of this research is to improve student learning outcomes by using the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFaE) Learning Model on the subject of functions.This research is classroom action research (CAR) with cycle method. This research is a research in the field of education, which is reflective in nature which improves and enhances the quality of learning in a professional manner. In this study, the researcher served as an observer, to find out the improvement of students' mathematics learning outcomes, the instruments used were in the form of tests in the form of practice questions and observation sheets of learning activities. The subjects of this study were students of class X-3 SMA Negeri 1 Barumun Tengah which consisted of 30 students with 10 male students and 20 female students. From the results of the study, it can be concluded that the application of the student facilitator and explaining learning model can improve students' mathematics learning outcomes on the subject of functions in class X-3 SMA Negeri 1 Barumun Tengah. As the data obtained from the initial test, the percentage of mastery learning is 6.6%. In the first cycle of meeting-1, the class average value of students was 62.73% and the percentage of complete learning was 26.6% with the number of students who completed as many as 8 people. Then in the second meeting, the class average value of students was 71.6% and the percentage of learning completeness was 50% with the number of students who completed 15 people. While in the second cycle of meeting-1 the average grade of the students was 75.1% and the percentage of learning completeness was 70% with the number of students who completed 21 people, then at the second meeting the average grade of the students was 79.13% and the percentage of completeness learning is 86.6% with 26 students.
