- This research is talking about improving writing descriptive text by using collaborative writing strategy at grade VIII students of SMP N 1 Padangsidimpuan. The objectives of the research are to describe the improvement of students’ writing descriptive text and to identify the factors that influenced students’ writing descriptive text. Researcher conducted classroom action research (CAR) to solve the students’ problems in writing. The CAR was done based on Kemmisdesign. The researcher conducted two test and two cycles in this research. The participants of this research is one class consist of 34 students from class VIII-10 SMP N 1 Padangsidimpuan, Academic year 2018. The technique of data collection are test, observation and interview. Based on the result of the research, researcher found that the students’ writing descriptive text was improved. It is supported by the result of the cycle 1 was78.97. The result of cycle 2 82.05. There were external factors influenced in writing descriptive text no students studied at home, students were not active in classroom, raised my hand to get the teacher’s attention, nervous while answering the test. There were five internal factors influenced in writing descriptive text they were grammar, vocabulary, mechanic, fluency and form. That is the factor can influence writing descriptive text.
