- This research intended to investigate the effect of using tourism brochures on students’ writing descriptive text at tenth grade of MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. The problems that faced by students in writing descriptive text were: 1) Students have lack of vocabulary, 2) Students are confused to understand the text, 3) Students are lack of understanding grammar in writing descriptive text. The formulations of the problem in this research are: 1) How is the students’ writing ability in descriptive text before using tourism brochures, 2) How is the students’ writing ability after using tourism brochures, 3) Is there any significant effect before and after using tourism brochures at the tenth grade of MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. The purpose of this research is to answer the formulation of the problem in this research. This research used experimental quantitative method with pre-test and post�test design. The population are all of the students at the tenth grade of MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. The sample are X-IPA as experimental class that consisted of 13 students and X-Agama as control class that consisted of 12 students. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test in essay test form and analyzed by using t-test formula. The result of research showed that the mean score of experimental class was higher than the mean score of control class after using tourism brochures. The mean score of experimental class in pre-test was 47 and the mean score of control class in pre-test was 35. Meanwhile, the mean score of experimental class in post-test after doing treatment by using tourism brochures was 80 and the mean score of control class in post-test without treatment was 48. In addition, after doing T-test, the researcher found that tcount > ttable (15.02 > 1.714). Therefore, alternative hypothesis (Ha) of this research was accepted and null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It can be concluded that there was significant effect of using Tourism Brochures on Writing Descriptive Text at The Tenth Grade of MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan.
