  • This research focused on using of Authentic Material in teaching Descriptive Text at The XI Grade MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. The problems of this research are the students had lack interest in reading, the students had lack interest in English, and the teacher did not have other material in teaching reading. The purpose of this research was to find out the effect of using authentic material media in descriptive text reading comprehension at the XI grade MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. This reseacrh has three formulation of the problem, they are how is students‘ descriptive text reading comprehension before learning using authentic material media, how is students‘ descriptive text reading comprehension after learning using authentic material media, and is there any significant effect of learning authentic material media. The purpose of this research are to find out students‘ descriptive text reading comprehension before learning authentic material media, to find out students‘ descriptive text reading comprehension after learning authentic material media, and to examine whether there is or there is not any significant effect of learning authentic material media. This research employed experimental research. The population of this research was XI grade MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan. The total of population was two classes. Then, the sample of the research was all the population at grade XI, consists of two classes, XI Agama as experimental class and XI IPA as control class. It was taken total sampling after conducting normality and homogeneity test. To collect the data, researcher used test for measuring students‘ descriptive text reading comprehension. To analysis the data, the researcher used T-test. Based on the result of the research, researcher showed the description of the data was found that mean score of pre-test in experimental class was lower than control class (67<90.4). Then, after using Authentic Material media the result of mean score post-test in experimental class was higher than control class (97.9>90.2), and the score of tcount was bigger than ttable (2.78>1.67). It means that hyphothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted. It was concluded that there was significant effect of using Authentic Material Media at XI Grade MAS Baharuddin Tapanuli Selatan.
