- This research focused on the effect of using Pictures Set Technique on students’ writing ablity in narrative text at XI Grade SMA N 3 Padangsidimpuan. The students’ problems in vocabulary were: 1) Students’ writing ability was low; 2) The students were lack in vocabulary mastery; 3) they were low in structure and grammar mastery; 4) The students were difficult to develop and organize ideas. Finally, the students difficult to do writing and failed in writing competence. The purpose of this research was examine whether there is the significant Effect of using Pictures Set Technique on Students’ writing Ablity in Narrative Text at XI Grade SMA N 3 Padangsidimpuan. The method was used in this research was experimental research. The population was the XI grade SMA N 3 Padangsidmpuan. Total population were 10 classes. Two classes were chosen randomly as the sample. They were XI IPA-4 (experimental class) and XI IPA-5 (control class). It was taken after conducting normality and homogeneity test. The data was derived from pre- test and post-test. To measure the data, the researcher used t-test formula. After analyzing the data, the researcher found that mean score of experimental class after using pictures set technique was higher than control class. Mean score of experimental class before using pictures set tehnique was 68.32 and mean score after using pictures set tehnique was 82.7. Meanwhile, the mean score of control class in pre-test was 60.82 and in post-test was 65.12. Besides it, the score of tcount was bigger than ttable (8.41>2.042 and 2.045). It meant that the hypothesis alternative (Ha) was accepted. It was concluded that there was a significant effect of using pictures set technique on students’ writing ability at XI grade SMA N 3 Apdangsidimpuan.
