- This research concerns about students’ comprehension in reading expository text at the fourth semester of English Education Study Program STAIN Padangsidimpuan. The research uses qualitative method and using descriptive approach. The primary source of the data is the students at fourth semester of English Education Study Program STAIN Padangsidimpuan are 100 students. The secondary source of data are the Reading Lecturer and the Chief of English Education Study Program. Next, this research uses test, interview and observation as the instruments First, it is find the students’ comprehension in reading expository text at the fourth semester of English Education Study Program STAIN Padangsidimpuan is enough category or 58, 6%. Second, it is find the students’ difficulties in reading expository text are finding unfamiliar words and lack vocabularies, determining kinds of the text, and analyzing the content of the text. Third, the teaching learning processes in teaching expository text is through groups discussing. Reading lecturer explains some points of a genre and every group demand to find out another related topics and present it in a certain time. But most of the students did not have any good preparation, did serious when they are studying, and some students have low level skills in learning this text. So, they still have difficulties in comprehending this text.
