  • This researchwas done based on the fact of the students’ problem in English grammar, they confused in using auxiliary verbs like primary verbs in writing sentences or speaking English. The purposes of this research were to know the students’ ability inusingauxiliaryverbsatgrade VIII MTs S BabussalamBasilam Baru, to know thestudents’ difficulties inusingauxiliaryverbsatgrade VIII MTs S BabussalamBasilam Baru, andto know the efforts of theEnglish teacherinovercoming the students’ difficulties inusingauxiliaryverbsatgrade VIII MTs S BabussalamBasilam Baru. The research was done at MTs S Babussalam Basilam Baru. The sources of data were the students at grade VIII, the English teacher and the headmaster at MTs S Babussalam Basilam Baru. The kind of this research was qualitative research by using descriptive method. The instrument of data collection was observation, interview, and test. After the research was done, it was known that the students’ abilityin using auxiliary verbs at grade VIII MTs S Babussalam Basilam Baru could be categorizedinto enough category with the mean score 54,36%. The students’ difficulties in using auxiliary verbs were difficult in using auxiliary verbs with appropriate subjects, they were difficult in using auxiliary verbs with the right full verbs, and they were difficult in using auxiliary verbs sentences in forms and voice of the sentences. The efforts done by the English teacher to overcome the students’ difficulties were repeatinglesson, giving more examples, exercises, ordered them to often speak English, and invited them to learn by heart about the kind of verbs and also personal pronouns.
