  • Based on the fact of the problems about students’ reading comprehension, the researcher identified many problems such as difficult to concentrate their mind, lack of clue mastering, lack of vocabularies, lack of motivation in reading, lack of grammar, lack of exercises, interest, support and the problem in reading process. So that, these problems make them bored and accept what was in print directly without making consideration first, and they think that what is in print, it is true. Finally, the researcher was interested to search and to know the influence of critical reading strategies mastery on students’ reading comprehension at English Education Study Program STAIN Padangsidimpuan. In this research, the researcher wanted to find out about how significant the influence of critical reading strategies mastery on students’ reading comprehension was. The population of research was all of students at fourth grade of English Education Study Program and the sample of research was all of the population, they were 66 students. As the instrument for collecting the data the researcher used the questionnaires and test. The researcher used the product moment for analyzing data. In this occasion, mean scores of critical reading strategies mastery = 75.47; it was categorized high score. Next, the mean scores of reading comprehension test = 67.86; it was categorized good score. In which the product moment result rxy = 15.93 more than rtable on significant level 5% = 0.244 and on significant level 1% = 0.317. So, it was categorized very high influence. Based on the result above, there was significant influence of critical reading strategies mastery on students’ reading comprehension. It meant hypothesis was accepted.
