  • Reading is not easy learning activities. In every level of education in Indonesia, English is one of the compulsory courses that is taught from primary school until university. Like in SMA N 3 Panyabungan, all of students can read. But the problem is most of them do not remember what they have read, they do not understand about main idea or component of paragraph, lack of vocabularies. This research concerned about students’ reading comprehension by SQ3R (survey, question, read, recite, and review) to students’ Reading Comprehension at Grade XI SMA N 3 Panyabungan. The research was conducted by quantitative approach in experimental method. The population of this research was 120 students of the grade XI SMA N 3 Panyabungan. Then, the sample of research was 60 students. Next, the pre test and post test about reading comprehension were given to the sample. To analysis the data, the writer used formulation of T-test. After calculating the data to show the description of the data was found that the score of t 0 was bigger than t s (1.89 > 1.68). It was concluded that students’ reading comprehension achievement by using SQ3R strategy is better than conventional strategy (μ1 > μ 2 ). Ha was accepted. Meanwhile, students’ reading comprehension achievement by using SQ3R (survey, question, read, recite and review) Strategy is not better than conventional strategy (μ1 = μ 2 ). H0 was rejected. So, students’ reading comprehension achievement by using SQ3R (survey, question, read, recite and review) Strategy is better than conventional strategy at grade XI SMA N 3 Panyabungan.
