- This research discussed about a correlation between students’ motivation and speaking ability. The formulation of the problem:this research intended to know whether there was a significant correlation of students’ motivation and speaking ability at the second grade students in MAN Sibuhuan. The research was conducted by quantitative method. The population that was going to be researched in this occasion wasthe second grade students in MAN Sibuhuan, the total of population was164 students in 5 class. Then, because number of the population was more than 100 students, so, the researcher take one class as a sample where was 37 students from the sample would get data which was needed.Next, this research used test as instrument, for students’ motivation given the questionnaire and made a dialogue about the coming holiday for speaking ability then performance. To analysis the data, the researcher used formulation of analysis product moment. After calculating the data, there wasa correlation between students’ motivation and speaking ability. It could be seen from rcount>rtable (0.752 > 0.325). So, the hypothesis was received. It meant there wassignificant correlation between students’ motivation and speaking ability. The last, the result regression of research was Y= a + b X, Y = a + b X = 19.45+ 0.648 X.
